Miss Gordon began her career in the medical field over 22 years ago. She has been a medical assistant, dental assistant, phlebotomist, medical office manager, extern preceptor, EMT and paramedic, just to name a few.
She started teaching as an extern preceptor in 2000, for students exiting various allied health programs and quickly discovered that teaching and training new medical professionals was her one true passion. When asked about the overwhelmingly positive feedback and accolades received from her proteges, Miss Gordon has often been quoted as saying " The fact that I was good at it just came as a bonus".
She began teaching in a formal classroom at a proprietary school in 2006, but to her dismay, learned that rather than preparing students for success in the field, students were merely being "spoon-fed" the answers for exam and certification, to maintain attrition and student retention.
From a moral and ethical standpoint, this did not set well with her. Miss Gordon chose to leave the proprietary sector and moved on to a position at a community college in Chicago where she was afforded not only the opportunity to author and create a more appropriate and comprehensive program (NAACLS qualified and NCCT approved), but also to implement a course curriculum which implemented unique presentation methods and teaching techniques that students consider rewarding, challenging, fun and easy to learn.
Miss Gordon credits one of her former instructors as her mentor, saying her desire was to emulate this particular woman, as she was the epitome of a dedicated teacher, and that had it not been for this one phenomenal instructor, Miss Gordon would not be who or where she is today.
Her course is a compilation of information from various textbooks, workshops, and seminars, combined with 22 years of hands-on, real life, day-to-day experiences, which she believes gives her program the added touch that many other courses lack.
